How Richard supported his family with his career path Tears of hope.Īfter listening back to the interview several times during the editing process, I don’t think my emotions are palpable, but, upon listening to Richards words, I hope for you too they engender hope, even if it’s just a little. Even amidst the chaos of bushfires ravaging the land in Australia, the deep political unrest in the USA, and my own personal struggles and concerns - there are kind, compassionate people out there. To me, every time I interact with Richard, I’m reminded that there are good, honest people in the world. The kind of tears I can imagine someone crying when they hear a verdict in their favor during a court case, or when a medical scan or test comes back with good news.

The emotions I felt, both then and now are difficult to put into words - but the closest I can come would be to describe them as tears of relief. In fact, after this recent interview with Richard, we hung up the call, and I burst into tears at my desk. Rereading the caption of that instagram post from more than 5 years ago brought me back to the feeling I had during that workshop - overwhelming gratitude and a sense of safety and belonging that nearly brought me to tears. I had been interested in, and practicing Yoga Nidra for a few years at that point, so when Richard Miller came to Sydney, I was eager to come meet the man who merged two of my passions, psychology and nidra together. I know this because I have a slightly awkward, posed photo of he and I together at the very bottom of the scroll in my instagram account.
